In 2017 I finally decided to add some sport coats to my wardrobe. Over the years I have bought and returned more sport coats than I can count as I have never really been able to find the ideal combination of fabric and fit. I have now since refined my own style, which has given me a better understanding of what sport coats would work best in my wardrobe.
If you already follow along with me on Instagram, you will know that my style is pretty casual for the most part. I typically reach for things like denim, chinos, textured trousers, oxford shirts, and cardigans, which have lead to my search for casual and soft tailored sport coats. One of my most recent purchases featured above is from Spier & Mackay, the jacket offering an ideal fit off the rack at a fair price point. Spier & Mackay is based in Canada and offers free shipping and returns, which made the order process seamless and low risk.
I have been following along in the Spier & Mackay Styleforum affiliate thread, seeing some of the upcoming fabrics that they will be offering and I can’t wait to see them go into production. Ever since seeing a brown donegal Eidos jacket worn by Mitchell Moss (pictured below), I knew I wanted to add something similar to my wardrobe. Spier and Mackay will be running the Abraham Moon donegal in Fawn 4080/09 and I look forward to seeing the finished jacket as it should be similar to the Eidos version. Based of the information they have shared so far, It will be made in their neapolitan cut with 10cm lapels, negative belly, and patch hip pockets. Presale should begin later this month with delivery in shortly after.

Spier & Mackay is also designing another neapolitan cut jacket, with a gun club check fabric from Abraham Moon. I have seen this exact fabric made up courtesy of Formosa via No Man Walks Alone and styled on Instagram from Sebastian McFox. Presale hopefully launches on this item by the end of September.

Another couple of fabrics on my radar for sport coats are a navy or emerald green tweed. I also have interest in a unstructured moleskin sport coat, maybe in a shade of olive to pair with denim. With something like 20+ sport coats on the horizon from Spier and Mackay this fall you can bet I will be taking more than a few for a test drive once they start dropping.
I’d love to hear what’s on your wish list for fall. Leave your comments below!
Update: Quick last minute update as Spier & Mackay just previewed two moleskin (new lovat, navy) and three tweed sport coats (navy, grey, brown) in their Styleforum thread. Priced at $319 CAD for the unstructured moleskins and $399 CAD for the tweeds, likely with a bundle discount applied for 2 or more purchased. Below are my early favorites and be sure to check out them them all.
Update 2: Moleskin and tweed sport coats are now live on the site at https://www.spierandmackay.com/sportcoats
